The following are my own OPINIONS based on years of growing clones and seeds. I'm 99% sure this is fact
Plants need to be fully mature in order to reach their maximum potential in flower. I believe it's tied to their "sexual maturity". If you grow from seed and you let your plants veg for 3-6 months before flowering, your plants are most likely fully mature and will deliver their maximum potential first time you run them.
For most of us, however, because of time and space considerations, seedlings usually get put into flower earlier. Although the finished product can be stellar, it will almost ALWAYS be better if you run the same plant again from clone (it's had more time to mature).
That means that if you buy or make S1's of your favorite strain, you should use the first grow to select your best representations, then grow out the clones to make a final determination. If you hope to get something as good as the clone, you will probably almost always be disappointed if you DON'T run your selections again. While they might be really good, they will most likely NOT be as good as the original clone because the original is a WORLD CLASS KEEPER and your brand new plant from seed isn't mature enough to compete.
I can't tell you how many plants that might have gotten culled became keepers after the 2nd run. They tend to grow better, taste better, and get you higher....
