I was really hoping on a few of the chatty people around here. It is going to take a lot more than me to get this tread going LOL. I don't have that much interesting to say LMAO.

I did a little shopping while in Oregon. I found 2 newer strains I had not heard, Black Truffle and Super Buff Cherry. Man the new weed looks pretty.

I noticed lots of strains covered in trichomes. Everything "Looked" great, some smelled good too. I went with strains that looked and smelled good. With the trichome coverage, it seems there is a new " Bag Appeal" now. Extra frosty sells as well as the colored up stuff. Most have color and trichomes. The one thing some are missing is effects. Yes they were good. Not as good as they looked though.

Just because one strain is covered in trichomes, doesn't make it better than others. People are going to miss out on a lot of great weed picking only the pretty strains.

I see that permanent marker is the new hype strain..
But does Biscotti X Jealousy X Sherbet BX really smell like sniffing an old school permanent marker??

Permanent Marker is a new one to me. I have not tried or smelled it. So I really don't know.

Short answer would be, It can happen. I have noticed that half of my hybrids taste or smell like I thought they would. Terpene profiles are so diverse these days it isn't surprising different smells are showing up.

Might as well ask a question to see who is dropping by if anyone.

What was the first strain you grew that made you go wow!

For me it was Cannalope Haze. I wasn't cloning then so I just grew it and ,lost it. It had a totally different flavor then the other Cannalope Haze plants. It had a musty hashy flavor that was incredible. I have yet to find anything like it. Since that time I have found a lot more great strains. You still got to love your first WOW.

I'm still discovering strains, flavors, smells, etc.. For most of my smoking life it's been 'weed' - no names or they were just made up to move product. It's only been the past few years where Ive had actual variety and distinction between strains.

Probably the first 'Wow' was an Irie Genetics Blueberry strain I was gifted from the Ninja Turtles line. That was the first strain I had that actually had a blueberry anything to it. Previously all blueberry, sour, etc.. I had was extremely generic. Not long after that experience, Rasta Jeff came out with Blueberry Butcher and I picked it up when it dropped. I'm just starting my second run with that strain.

@HappyHappy I am with you on the Exodus Cheese. I have 1 5 pack left of Greenhouse's Exodus Cheese. Like half my genetics. I can't grow it yet because I need to clone every plant.

That Orange Cream sounds like a good one too. Hard to find the perfect orange.

This ^^. So many strains are given the hype, yeah yeah, gotta have it etc etc, however when you smoke it, its meh/ok at best. Im sure hype accounts for the majority of "big box" sales, but once you can distance yourself from the bs, start looking at the older proven strains, then you can find the peeps that are breeding for the right reasons, like KB, and at that point you start a new chapter. Thats me, right now.

The main problem is, you can't tell effects from bag appeal. The frosty buds with fruity smells get noticed easier than normal plants. Headbands have great highs with minimal frost.

Frosty strains do carry more oils for terpenes, Terpenes helps the THC get the job done. Too bad all the frosty buds are not as strong as they look like Mac1 and others do.

The one thing I find most in the new frosty weed is most of them have a ceiling. A low one at that. You get high real fast, then never really get much higher no matter how much more you smoke.

Wow, I have grown out a lot of stuff. I recently went back through old photos. So many strains I have forgot about. So much more to grow though.

One thing I noticed was, I used to grow out more of my own genetics. It took a bit to figure out why things changed. I got Clones!

Growing clone runs every time or every other time, takes lots of space. I lost out on a lot of seed runs when I was growing clone only stuff. Most my mothers are gone now. Maybe it is time to grow more seeds

I found some pictures of a old strain I made. Choccrit LOL. Chocoloco x Critical Mass.

I was only pollinating a couple branches back then. Those seeds are long gone. I sent half to Canada and grew the rest out myself.

I bred branches for 3 years before I ever did my first whole plant project. Even then it was small plants in a 21" x 36" x 60" tent. I have since moved up to a 36" x 60" x 80" tent

Jack the Ripper was my first incredible plant. I cloned it and tried to reverse it. It made balls but never dropped any pollen. It was my very first reversal. I ended upo losing that plant. I put all my clones into one project and it failed. I have since found aJack the Ripper leaning female for my Citrus Snap hybrids and Agent Orange F-2's. At some point I need to start looking for a Jack the Ripper leaning female.

I have my Agent Orange F-2's to go through and I recently found out that I can get some Jack the Ripper x C-99 seeds. I know both those strains pretty well. I think that is going to be the first place I look. Now I just need to find time for a regular seed pheno hunt.

Being a small set up for breeding. I have never got a chance to do the things I want to do. Smaller pheno hunts less space for clones are the main factor. That is the main reason I bred with clone only stuff the last few years. Those same clones make breeding even harder. Once you have grown the clone only stuff grow you will know. Those plants have everything. Flavor, high, are the main things. I have found lots of plants that get you high, some real high. I have also found some with great flavor. Finding that one plant that has it all is tough. Mainly because the clone only stuff has shown me what special, really means.

New is new, I was always a fan of starting new seeds. The waiting to see what happened was always exciting. The outcome not always exciting LOL. I still try to start lots of seeds for that great "NEW" feeling. Lately I have realized, new clones are the same. While I have a idea of what that clone is going to do. I still have not watched and smelled it while it does. Plus there is the factor that someone else chose it for some reason. At least I hope they are all "Keeper" clones and not just some random plant that some one started cloning. My new, old stuff has a few great clones in the line up. Og Kush, Jack Herer, Exodus Cheese will get their chance to impress me.

Old clones gives me a chance to try seeds from newer generics. At least for the next year or so. I like a mix of old school and new school genetics. I do have clones of newer genetics too hopefully I can find a good balance. New clones with old seeds. Old clones with new seeds. Looks great on paper anyway.

Looks like I have a fellow grower near me. A friend dropped me off some of his bud to try. I was sold from the start just by looking at it.

Looks are not everything. Smoking it, backs up, what the looks had to offer. Great high and great flavor. Looks, flavor, and high my guess it is a clone only. I hope it is, I would like to grow it sometime. The mutual friend we have, is trying to introduce us. Finding a local grower will help us both out. We will see how things work out.

Starting up a new grow soon. Pretty sure I am going to plant the seeds right into the 2 gallon pot I plan to flower them in. It is going to take a lot longer for the seed to grow in. It should help them grow wider than normal from the start. I don't normally get any shock from transplanting. I never notice it anyway. Still not having to repot might save me a few days.

I will be running Kushy Payton, (Gray Payton x Platinum Kush) and Blue Fire from Humboldt Seed Org. It has been a long time since I have grown out any HSO genetics. I always did real well with them. The 707 Headband they have is probably my favorite strain from seed.

I am really thinking about running F-1 Durb x Pre98 Bubba Kush soon. If I do, it will be a large run to try and find a keeper. This hybrid has so much promise. Not sure if I will find it. There is going to be a great plant from this hybrid somewhere. My thinking is there may be lots of them. I have one tent coming available soon. I am just not sure if I want to fill it with just one strain. I may put the F-1 Durb hybrid later when I can grow it with a few other plants for variety.
