Last Friday I started three each of the Trinity Skunk and the Octang 2.0, paper towels in a baggie. Octang popped in 48 hours and is now in soil showing green. Nothing from the Trinity, changed the paper towel after a couple days then a 12 hour soak and back to the towel. Seven days now, is there anything I can do to help them along? Never had all not show something. Thanks

I am sure I don't do things the best way. I just throw them in some distilled water for about 24 hrs and then pop them in the media I am using. I just had the same issue with the Trinity S1. I only tried three seeds though, still have the rest. I popped 3 Platinum Root Beer, 3 Cookie Truffle Shuffle, 3 Truffle Cake S1 at the same time. 1 Truffle Cake did not pop and none of the Trinity. Everything else looks pretty good. The Truffle Cake stuff is a different breeder.

You could try to carefully snip of the pointy tip of the seed. I have tried it after seeds were already wet. It worked on one of them. Some seeds just have really hard shells. Snipping the tip may let in enough water to let it pop.

Those really hard seeds, you can try to real gently press them so that the shell cracks a little. Or like someone said- snip the pointy end with something sharp. I've done these to seeds that had been in the water or paper towel for awhile some others have popped. And some started germinating and some did not after that.
But still worth trying if the seed shell looks real hard.
Also 1% hydrogen peroxide solution can help the seeds to suck that water in and start germinating. If I remember right you should not do this longer than 12 or 24h. After that you can put them in paper towels for example.

This is my favorite way. I just transplanted 15 today. 13 had the taproot showing, some damn near half an inch! This was after less than 48 hours of soaking. The beans that don't pop, toss them in a flower bed and wait for a surprise!

Soak in a cup of 1% hydrogen peroxide solution. If they haven't split after 48 hr you can take a scalpel and cut the sides to help open. I personally would stay away from paper towels unless you know that nothing is in them. (Formaldehyde, bleach, dyes etc...)just float them in a cup

You can find these little plastic seed crackers they work great for old seeds, also willow water after the seed crack helps with old seeds.
Willow water, cut the tips about 6inchs of new growth on willow trees and smash with a hammer and then soak in a bucket with RO water or distilled. I've used these for about 13 years for old seeds.

Scarification can help a seed pop. Scratch the seed with an emery board or sand paper.
Or you could try again on July 2/3/4, setting the seed in soil pointy side down. These are all moon favorable dates for rapid germination. Seeds open like a hinge on round end and send the root from the pointy end.

I don't know if you want to try this, but I've left hard seeds in tap water for over a week,I'd forget, and often the whole seedling is out of the shell. Those ,handled w care never failed. My only hesitation would be possibly rotting inside the seed, instead of germination. Good luck with it, it's frustrating.

Trying something new, Have already pre soaked seeds in a hydrogen peroxide solution for 24 hrs, 40 ml H20 & 2ml H202, flush seeds distilled H20 then apply root hormone. Seeds are only 1/4 submerged in this solution to prevent drowning. Once they sprout I transfer the seedlings into a petri dish with same solution and get the tap root showing 1.5 to 2mils before final transplant. This product came highly recommended.

To date have tried to germinate 3 Trinity Skunk without success - so don't feel bad !! Guess re-think your germination methods - a 24hr soak then paper towel then plant - generally this works very well - there are many variables -- temps is the most important (also some folks try to crack the shell before germination process (get a pill bottle (clean it) then but seed init a shake, shake, shake it) Good Luck and Happy Germination !

Hello, first post I think. I'd like to add my own trials of seeds starting here. I've popped open a pack of seeds from auction - Sour diesel x Magnum opus. Put in distilled water w/ a bit of H2O2 on 3/19 and set near a heat register. Yesterday no tails yet so I transferred those to paper towels in a container and set by a window. This morning 36 hours from popping no tails. Anything else I should be doing? I don't have the warmest house so I moved them to a tank that stays in the mid 70's. I did once crack different seeds to open the shells and that worked for most of them. I will attempt something mentioned above to help them out.
Regards.

Update, I did hold the seeds with a tweezers and gently squeezed them with a needle nose pliers. I was able to get them to open like a coin purse that when I let off they would close up again. They went back in the paper towels added a little water and hydrogen peroxide and put them back into a warm area. Will update in a day or two.

Update on seeds SD X Magnum opus. This morning 6 had good tails, 3 had white tail tips , and 1 was out of the shell still curled up. I think for that one I think was due to having to crack the shell it fell open. I forgot to take a photo but I put all 10 in soil. So it’s been 5 days since starting of germination and two days after cracking the shells, still 5 days total. Now it’s waiting to see them poke out of the soil. 🙏👍
